In preparation for your initial appointment, here are our top tips for your first session!

Thank you for booking your first appointment with Summit Osteopathy, we’re looking forward to helping you realise your summit, no matter how big or small!

What to expect for your first session:

Before your appointment, expect an online intake form sent, which takes about 5 minutes to fill out. It covers medical history, medications, and includes the opportunity to review our consent form. Rest assured, your information is securely stored electronically, in accordance with our privacy policy.

Feel free to use the clinic's bathroom before your appointment, located at the end of the corridor.

During your consultation, your osteopath will inquire about your symptoms and medical history, considering the body as a whole. Expect various tests and examinations to determine the best treatment approach. You may be asked to perform movements, and at times, to remove your shirt for further assessment of spinal movement.

Osteopathic treatment takes a holistic approach, addressing not only the area of concern but also related parts of the body. Your osteopath may offer exercises and advice for managing your condition between sessions.

Frequently Asked Questions- treatment

For more information about osteopathy in general, head to FAQs

Do I need a referral from my GP?

No, you are welcome to make an appointment directly without a referral.

What do I need to bring?

Bring along any X-rays, scans (anything within the last 5 years) or test results that you may have.

What should I wear?

It’s important that you feel comfortable, and that you can move freely. We recommend wear a comfortable shirt and loose pants or bring a pair of shorts to change into. Be sure to wear comfortable, flexible clothing and appropriate underwear. Female patients: crop tops can be tricky to treat around- normal bras are easier! (You would never be asked to remove your bra in an osteopathic consultation.)

Can I bring a friend or relative?

Yes, you can have someone present throughout your consultation and treatment. We just need to register their name for the completion of our clinical records.

Is there anything else you recommend?

Drink water before and after your session:

When we start working with your body for the first time, there is a chance we might move some things that haven't been moved in a while. This includes your lymphatic system- being hydrated before your appointment will moderate your response to treatment.
