Pregnancy and Osteopathy

Pregnancy care, Perth. How osteopathy can help you during pregnancy and beyond

Pregnancy is a time when many different changes are happening in the body!

During the growth of bub this may mean there may be different pressures on mum’s body that may contribute to pain or discomfort during pregnancy. Osteopathic treatment may be able to help with some pain and discomfort; and provide information about managing complaints to empower mum during pregnancy!

Osteopaths take into consideration the body as a whole during treatment and in pregnancy there may also be other changes to consider. During pregnancy there are many changes occurring in the body such as hormonal changes affecting ligaments and musculoskeletal changes affecting gait and posture.

Osteopaths work with pregnant patients to help with lower back pain, rib pain, pubis symphysis pain.

Common complaints during pregnancy include:

  • Lower back pain

  • Pubic symphysis pain

  • Sciatic type pain

  • Rib pain

  • Upper back and neck pain

  • Sacroiliac joint pain

  • Carpal tunnel syndrome

Osteopaths may help pregnant patients with these conditions and treatment may involve manual therapy including soft tissue, mobilisation, lymphatic and fascial techniques. Education may also be given in relation to stretching and exercises at home.

If you or someone you know are pregnant and may benefit from osteopathic treatment for pregnancy the team at Summit are happy to help! We are able to treat at any part of your pregnancy, we just choose appropriate techniques. We have an additional full length pregnancy cushion that allows the pregnant patient to lay on their front for some of their session- bliss!)
